An assistant DA who's sick of the men interfering in her cases.
And the WICKED WINEMAKER’S auction that changes everything...
RIDGE
My family started Ridge Winery, so I’m no stranger to getting what I want. But, I was shot down, turned down by a woman I thought was mine. That’s old news now, though. Water under the bridge. I’m not one to wallow or get discouraged, not my style, not my thing. This auction is everything I tried to avoid, and everything I needed. But, I’m determined to make the sassy DA see me in a new light. Let’s just see how WICKED it’s really going to get…
SERAPHINA
I don’t care how irresistible they are. The so-called good guys shouldn’t be butting into our cases. This isn’t a game of cops and robbers. This is real danger and real lives are on the line. But when it’s my life that hangs in the balance, there’s only one man I trust, one man who can save me. And believe me, he’d climb to the top of the RIDGE to protect me. "

“Good morning, again.”
I opened my eyes and looked into Noah’s. “Hi.”
He sat on the bench beside me.
“Are you joining your brother for yoga?” I asked. “If you are, don’t let me keep you.”
“I didn’t realize Dalt was here, but no, I was looking for you.”
“Any particular reason?”
Noah put his arm around me and I rested my head on his shoulder. “Lots of reasons, but the main one is, I missed you.”
I closed my eyes when tears threatened. I felt the same way. The chill I’d felt had nothing to do with Dalton’s arrival or his words, but rather disappointment over him walking in rather than his brother.
“I missed you too.” I sighed, knowing I had to ask. “Have you heard anything about my sister?”
“Nothing definitive. Varilla is still refusing to talk without a deal.”
“We need confirmation she’s alive first.”
I felt him nod. “I also heard from Snapper about another shipping container owned by the same holding company as the one we found last night, except rather than leaving for China, it’s headed to the Port of Felixstowe in the UK.”
I raised my head. “From Yavaros?”
“No. From the Port of Altamira on Mexico’s eastern coast. The team we’re working with is tracking the ship’s route and current location now.”
I sat up straight. “When did it leave?”
“Two days after your mother said your sister went missing.”
“What is transit time between the two ports?”
“Eight to ten days.”
I stood. “We need to find out if Luisa is on that ship. She disappeared seven days ago which means it could arrive in as few as three days.”
Noah pulled out his phone and swiped the screen. “Now we’re getting somewhere.”
“What’s happened?”
“Varilla has bigger fish he’s willing to give up. However, no protection will be offered without confirmation Luisa is alive.”
I sat down, closed my eyes, and prayed. When I opened them, Noah was still looking at his phone.
“Is there more?”
“It appears there is.” He positioned his phone so I could see there was a message being typed. We both watched until the marching dots went away. “Guess not.”
“I’d like to go to the temple.”
“Would you like me to go with you?”
“Please.”
Noah stood and held his hand out to me. He didn’t let go until we were walking up the steps. Even then it was just to open the door.
“I can come in or wait out here.”
I looked up at him. “How about this? I’d like you to be with me whenever you can, unless I say otherwise.”
“That’s true for me too.”
